The Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE) is a universally recognized programme, which challenges the youth beyond classroom learning and provides international accreditation through its unique format.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a voluntary programme of activities wherein students compete with themselves instead of others. Its ethos is to enable every young person of every background to succeed, regardless of any barriers. It aims develop the whole person – mind, body, and soul – in an environment of social interaction and teamwork. It requires persistence, commitment and has a lasting impact on the attitudes and outlook of all young people. Any young person between the ages of 14 onwards can participate in the award program. There are three levels to the award: Bronze, Silver, and Gold – each with an increasing degree of commitment.
To earn an award, an individual must undertake a balanced program of activities in four important areas of self-development:
- Voluntary community service
- Skill development (hobbies)
- Physical recreation
- Expeditions
Ambassador School has been successfully providing this opportunity of self-discovery to its students for the past 3 years. Students might spend an entire day in bed after an expedition, feeling hideous and staring at the screen because they can barely walk with their sore feet, however, there is an eternal and inexplicable sense of achievement, an experience that gives them an ‘up close and personal’ with their inner self.
